For years now, the overarching goal of business in the IT world has centered on the adoption of the fully digital, paperless office. Tablet PCs represent yet another step toward that goal, with the value proposition of eliminating pen-and-paper note-taking and memo transcription from corporate enterprise. Despite the novelty of the product, business projections estimate more than 35 percent of all notebook PCs sold worldwide will come equipped with some form of pen digitizer by 2007. Whether those figures accurately forecast the willingness of the general public to spend an estimated $2000 apiece for a product the closest competitor of which is pen and paper remains to be seen.
