Polarisation between indulgence and health and wellness
The German food market continued to grow at both extremes: health and wellness products were increasing, and there was a boom in organic supermarket chains, which, however, was not entirely to the disadvantage of unhealthy foods. On the contrary, relatively unhealthy foods, especially fast food and processed ready meals, were enjoying positive growth as well. In addition, there was a large number of consumers who lived unhealthy lifestyles by consuming fast food, which generally had a high fat and sugar content, on a regular basis, which had led to strong growth in the obesity rate in Germany.
