Chinese Markets for Cosmetic Chemicals
AMID Co, Jan 2002, Pages: 275
China's demand for cosmetic chemicals has grown at a fast pace in the past decade. In the next five years, both production and demand will continue to grow. This report examines China's macroeconomic trends, investment environment, cosmetic chemicals industry structure and capacity, production and demand, end-use market consumption trends, distribution channels and principal industry participants. Long-term forecasts for major cosmetic chemicals production and demand are included. Key producers are profiled and top Chinese cosmetic chemicals producers are listed in the producer directory section.
Most primary and secondary research was done in China in order to access up-to-date government regulations, market information and industry data. Data was collected from the Chinese government publications, Chinese language newspapers and magazines, Chinese chemical industry associations including Chinese cosmetic chemicals industry associations, local governments' chemical industry bureaus, cosmetic chemicals industry publications, and our in-house databases. Interviews were conducted with Chinese industry experts, university professors, and cosmetic chemicals producers in China.
China’s high economic growth has spurred on the rapidly rising consumption of cosmetic chemicals. Cosmetic chemicals are widely used in cosmetics, skin care products, hair care products, perfumes, shaving products and other sectors. The country’s cosmetic chemicals consumption has grown rapidly. It is forecast that the Chinese cosmetics, skin care products, hair care products, perfumes, shaving products and other sectors will continue to fuel demand for cosmetic chemicals and lead the industry in growth. The demand for cosmetic chemicals reached 2.74 million metric tons in 2000. The total market demand for cosmetic chemicals is projected to reach 4.25 million metric tons by the 2005, increasing 9.2% per annum. In 2000, China’s total output of cosmetic chemicals reached 2.3 million metric tons. Despite new facility construction and capacity expansion, China’s cosmetic chemicals demand will continue to outstrip supply. In 2000, China imported 707,500 metric tons, which were mainly the sorts that domestic technology facilities could not produce. The country will remain a large importer of cosmetic chemicals through the next century.
