Come On Feel the Noise: Digital Audio Projector Technology, Chips and Equipment
In-Stat/MDR, April 2005, Pages: 36
Announced in November 2004, Yamaha's digital audio projection (referred to as YSP-1 Digital Sound Projector by Yamaha) was G4TECHTV's Best of Show, CES 2005. The YSP-1 employs sound reflections to create virtual sources of surround sound matching a 5.1 configuration.
This report sees digital audio projection as an emerging technology. The form factor of the YSP-1 augments thin screens and the speakerless application is the greatest form factor of them all. As the technology becomes less and less expensive, digital audio projector unit shipment will grow. This growth is augmented by the halo effect in the decline of the prices of complement product, namely large form factor consumer video displays. The author of Come On Feel the Noise: Digital Audio Projector Technology, Chips and Equipment expects to see almost US$1 billion in revenue by 2010.
This report encapsulates the mechanism of how surround sound quality is achieved and where digital audio projection compares to other delivery methods of sound. The report also provides a five-year forecast for both stand-alone and TV-integrated DiSP solutions, the anticipated bill of materials, the semiconductor opportunity and what semiconductor applications drive the technology. Lastly, This report anticipates that digital audio projection, as a single-source unit, will be incorporated into the form factor of the television itself and will be an important value-added proposition.
