Tobacco in Turkey
Euromonitor International, Sep 2010, Pages: 46
Volume sales of tobacco registered a decline in 2009. The major reason for this was the ban on smoking in enclosed areas that came into effect in July 2009. The government is trying to reduce the number of smokers not only through smoking bans, but also by increasing taxes and so prices. As a result of increasing prices, some consumers gave up smoking, or reduced the number of cigarettes they smoke in a day. Although volume sales declined, value sales increased due to rising unit prices.
