The Scottish Food & Drinks Report
Leatherhead Food International, May 2005
Scotland has a wide and varied food and drink industry, exports of which amount to around GBP3bn per annum. Total sales of food and drink in the country are worth in the region of GBP7.5bn, therefore accounting for around 6.5% of the UK's GBP115bn groceries market. Scottish consumers have traditionally been associated with poor diets, with per capita consumption of carbonated soft drinks, biscuits and savoury snacks higher than the UK average, whilst the country is also home to the deep-fried Mars bar. However, the Scottish food and drink industry also contains suppliers of products such as probiotic dairy drinks, organic soups and natural mineral waters.
The Scottish Food & Drinks Report presents an in-depth analysis of the following market sectors: meat and fish products, dairy products, bakery and cereal products, savoury snacks, confectionery, prepared foods and beverages. The Scotch whisky industry is also reviewed at length.
