About Cloud-based VDI

A cloud-based VDI solution is a computing model where an end-user's system is separated from the physical IT infrastructure, but can access all the necessary files and data virtually. This computing model uses a cloud-based storage space, wherein the system applications and data are stored in the data center of a primary cloud service provider. End-users can gain remote access to these applications and data using their login credentials. Rapid technological developments and the need for fast and reliable computing solutions have prompted many companies to opt and centralize their end-user data and applications, because centralization helps companies provide end-users with enhanced backup and reliable computing solutions. Cloud-based VDI is an emerging concept among companies in many countries and is expected to witness rapid acceptance in the near future.

The analysts forecast the Global Cloud-based VDI market to grow at a CAGR of 35.55 percent over the period 2014-2019.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the team said: “One major trend in the market is the increasing adoption of hybrid cloud solutions. Greater numbers of companies are adopting hybrid cloud solutions because of their enhanced capability of providing an optimized solution as compared to both on-premise and cloud-based models. A major advantage of such solutions is that companies can scale up and customize their offerings as per the demand of the end-user.”

According to the report, high demand for virtualization is one of the major drivers in the market. Virtualized computing infrastructure helps reduce applications and service delivery costs because computing applications are hosted centrally at the server-end of the service provider and can be customized as per the needs of the end-user systems on demand.

Further, the report states that requirement for high capital expenditure is one of the major market challenges that the market faces. Though cloud-based virtualization solutions help to reduce operational expenses in an enterprise, setting up the infrastructure is a cumbersome task that requires high initial capital expenditure. A large portion of the expenditure is needed for the procurement of the necessary software and applications.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
