Aniline, also known as phenylamine or aminobenzene, is an aromatic amine produced by successive nitration and hydrogenation of benzene in the presence of a metal catalyst. It is used primarily in the production of MDI (Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate). MDI is further employed in the manufacture of polyurethane foams, elastomers, adhesives and sealants. Large volume share of aniline produced globally is utilized in the manufacture of MDI. Furthermore, aniline is used in the manufacture of several rubber processing chemicals, dyes & pigments, organic specialty fibers and agricultural intermediates. Polyurethane foam produced using aniline as a precursor is used in various applications. For instance, it is used in the manufacture of shoe soles, automotive and household upholstery, and insulating parts of electronic appliances. Aniline also yields superior rubber processing chemicals; thus, the aniline market is expected to grow at a fast rate during the forecast period.

Increasing demand for MDI in the CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) industry and the polyurethane industry has boosted the aniline market. This trend is anticipated to continue during the forecast period. Polyurethane foam is used extensively in the automotive and household upholstery industries in the manufacture of automobile seats and mattresses, respectively. Additionally, rigid foams are used as insulation in refrigerators and other electronic appliances.
