If there were ominous effects to global and US technology-based economies due to Hurricane Katrina and higher energy prices, these affects were not present toward the end of August 2005. We observed that August 2005 outpaced August 2004 worldwide semiconductor revenues by 6.0%. The surge in revenues was primarily ascribed to higher average selling prices (ASPs). The ASP for worldwide semiconductors in August 2005 was $0.508, whereas the ASP in August 2004 was $0.483 (or 5.2% higher). There were 36.8 billion semiconductor units shipped in August 2005. August 2005 shipments outperformed August 2004 shipments by 0.6%. Regionally, Asia Pacific accounted for 47.4% of all semiconductor-manufacturing revenues in August 2005.

The September/October 2005 Electronics Report is the comprehensive source for August 2005 market data, including semiconductor shipments, currency trends, book-to-bill ratios of key market segments and selected US end-product sales. The graphs and tables are handy reference guides toward understanding trends in the fast-moving semiconductor landscape. Analysis is brief, but to the point. The Electronics Report converts data from the SIA, the WSTS, US Department of Commerce, the US Federal Reserve Board, IPC and SEMI into a convenient platform that helps facilitate understanding of this technology.
