Western Europe Regional: Operators Set to Spend US$27bn on Network Equipment
Regional subscriber growth is expected to slowdown to a trickle as operators add a mere 71m subscribers through 2010 at a CAGR of 3 percent. However, despite these low growth rates, operators from Western Europe are expected to spend upwards of US$27bn on mobile network infrastructure through 2010. UK: Telefónica Acquisition of O2 Will Not Alleviate Competitive Pressures
Telefónica has almost definitely been successful in acquiring O2, significantly increasing its European footprint. Jan Ten Sythoff, Manager, Regional Research, argues competition in these countries will intensify, with in-country consolidation looking decidedly less likely.
