Asia/Pacific Consumer Wi-Fi Market Trends Analysis

The Asia/Pacific consumer Wi-Fi market continues to be in a state of flux, both in terms of technological changes and competitive landscape. Besides an increasing adoption of public Wi-Fi services, the market also witnessed the growing adoption of private Wi-Fi networks in the household sector during the past four years, as general awareness about Wi-Fi technology among consumers has been effectively improved. The total consumer Wi-Fi equipment market in Asia/Pacific reached revenues of US$112.3 million in 2004; it is expected to grow at a 13.8% CAGR during the forecast period of 2004–2010 and reach US$243.6 million in 2010. The prosperous future outlook for the Wi-Fi market attributes to a strengthened joint force among the service providers, vendors, and telecommunication regulatory bodies, fuelling consumer Wi-Fi growth in the Asia/Pacific region. There are a number of other trends in the market, such as the addition of security features that will quickly become a standard offering. Voice capability and Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) are also likely to become increasingly important, enabling a whole new Wi-Fi application for the technology.
