Key Findings From Operator Interview, December 2005

As part of its Vendor Services Program, we recently interviewed 15 operator executives about their viewpoints on managed services, outsourcing, hosting, and the vendors that supply these services. Questions were designed based on client input, and the responses are summarized in this report.
Some of the questions included:
- 'What are your company's strategic goals for the next 18 months and what types of technologies are you investing in to achieve them?'
- 'What will be your largest category of OPEX in the coming year?'
- 'What are your headaches in terms of managing your network?'
- 'Managed services and outsourcing telecom networks are broadly applied terms. How would you consider managed services within your network?'
- 'What are your security concerns? Would you consider managed security offerings if they were available to resolve your security concerns? If so, what kinds of solutions would you invest in?'
- 'What are the implementation and operational challenges faced by an operator looking to exploit fixed-mobile convergence? Where do the opportunities lie for outsourcing in a market impacted by fixed-mobile convergence?'
