The year 2005 was a good year for the cellular base station market, as WCDMA deployments started occurring at a good clip, and GSM and CDMA base station deployments occurred at a strong pace. Looking ahead, however, there will be changes. WCDMA will continue to gain steam and GSM will see a big slowdown. Add to this the large infrastructure demands from China, India, and other emerging countries and you have an ever-changing mix.

This report looks at the demand over the next five years for CDMA, GSM, WCDMA, and PDC cellular macro base stations, as well as the demand for base station semiconductors, cellular power amps, and semiconductors for cellular power amps. In addition, there is a discussion of TD-SCDMA, although this report does not contain forecasts for the technology.

This recent report found the following:

Total base station silicon revenues are expected to drop to $3.7 billion in 2010 after rising to a peak in 2007.

CDMA infrastructure semiconductor revenue is expected to increase for the next few years, and then taper off after 2008.

New GSM infrastructure deployments remain strong, especially as many carriers update their equipment to GPRS and EDGE, but after this year, the total value of GSM infrastructure will start to drop.
