This trend began in the United States during the early and mid 1990s, but the focus turned to Europe and India in the late 1990s and continues into the early part of the 21st century. After the initial flurry of activity in the United States in the early 1990s, U.S. generics companies have shown little recent activity in terms of acquisitions, but elsewhere both the pace and scale of this consolidation have accelerated since 2000.
