Pyramid Research, Inc, Jan 2006, Pages: 15
MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS Thailand: Operators Gear Up for 3G Despite a high degree of regulatory uncertainty and questionable market demand, Thailand’s biggest mobile operators have announced US$950m in capital spending on their mobile networks in 2006 and are making initial investments into 3G services. Senior Analyst Marc Einstein argues the early investments made by these players will allow them to persevere in the market and will likely drive consolidation among smaller operators.
China: 3G in China Update The winner in the Chinese 3G game will be the one who is best able to retain the high spender A uni-service operator, such as China Mobile, has sufficient lead to maintain its brand leadership by remaining an innovative leader in the market. TD-SCDMA will also be limited by its coverage, and we expect its market share to reach only 5 percent by 2010.
Regional: Orascom’s Investment in Hutch is a Sign of More Things to Come Egyptian mobile operator Orascom’s recent US$1.3bn buy in to pan-regional operator Hutchison is yet another example of global player’s increasing interest in investing in Asia Pacific.
