Handset Manufacturers in Ireland

According to Comreg, mobile penetration in Ireland reached 100% towards the end of 2005.
In the survey published by Comreg, it was found that 80% of mobile users’ rate value for money and lower prices as important when choosing or switching their phone operator. Research shows that 24% of handset users opt for post paid while 74% prefer pre paid.
iReach research reveals that the majority of Generation X opts for prepaid handsets due largely to financial reasons. This statistic is highest amongst 17-19 year olds as 91% have prepaid handsets.
According to the author, the main manufacturers of handsets are Nokia who hold 72% of the handset market across 23-25 year olds.
In terms of price Ireland remain 6th in the pre-paid mobile basket, four places better than the EU average in terms of price amongst the 19 EU countries. Ireland is ranked 12th on average in terms of post-paid handsets.
