Worldwide Market and Technology Trends for Automatic Optical Inspection Equipment 2005 to 2010
BPA Consulting, March 2006
The specific objectives of this study are as follows:
1) To establish the market and technology trends for the following PCB market segments for AOI equipment the years 2005-2010.
- High Volume - Medium Volume - Prototype - Fast Turn round.
2) To determine the key parameters for the successful introduction of AOI equipment for the PWB industry. Typically these will include throughput, cost, panel size, resolution, energy requirement, levels of automation
3) To profile the leading suppliers of bareboard AOI equipment, including profitability, business strategies, and to carry out a SWOT analysis to assist in defining some strategic options.
4) To establish if there are any current unfulfilled needs with the current suppliers and their equipment.
5) To define the market segments need for equipment and to quantify the opportunity in Volume and Value terms for the years 2005 to 2010.
6) Whether different regions have different priorities with regards to desired features and benefits
Methodology
The PCB companies listed below were contacted to establish key technology and market trends for AOI. This list includes both major players and small volume fabricators.
Companies contacted: Multek – Germany, China Aspocomp – Finland, China Ruwel – Germany, China Circuitex - UK Elvia - France AT&S – Austria, India, China Schweizer - Germany LG - Korea Tyco – US, Spain Elek & Eltec - China Sanmina-SCI – US, Singapore Samsung - Korea Fuba - Germany Merix - US Compeq – Taiwan, China Petasys - Korea Graphic - UK Nan Ya PCB – Taiwan, China Viasystems - China
Technical directors and system engineers responsible for the AOI systems were interviewed. These companies were asked to rank the factors determining their selection of AOI systems in order of importance, to specify the desired parameters where possible, to indicate preferred current equipment supplier and comment on desired features or service not currently provided by existing suppliers. They were also asked for numbers of AOI systems in use, intended purchase of AOI systems in the next 2 years and reasons for the purchase.
Relevant data in existing databases and findings from recent research programmes was drawn on as well as accessing primary and secondary external data typically used in the past to produce the market forecasts.
