A generator is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. Mechanical energy is generated from an internal combustion engine that uses fuel as an energy source. Generators provide backup power for industries, commercial offices, residences, construction sites, and workshops. Based on size, residential generators can be categorized into portable and stationary generators. Portable generators can be easily moved from one place to the other, making it suitable for residential applications. They provide a power output ranging between 500 W and 18 kW. Residential generators can be further divided on the basis of the type of fuels used. These generators use gasoline and gas as fuel to generate electricity. They are used for camping, tailgating parties, and residential emergency backup.
