Business Networking Equipment Trends: IP Telephony and Security Light Up the LAN

Manufacturing revenues in 2004 for the Business Networking Equipment Hardware market reached $26.4 billion, a 25% increase over 2003’s $21.2 billion market. Revenues are expected to reach $29.1 million in 2005, representing a 10% annual growth rate.
The largest segment of the market in 2005 is expected to be LAN switches, followed by IP Telephony, Security Appliances, Business Routers, and WLAN enterprise infrastructure. IP Telephony and Security Appliances will be the main drivers of the business networking equipment hardware market over the forecast period, along with the traditionally strong segment, Managed LAN Switches.
Cisco dominated the total business networking equipment market, capturing 60% of total revenue in 2004. The networking giant dominated every segment except IP Telephony, in which Avaya nudged out Cisco.
