IntelliNews SEE Financial Sector Report
Emerging Markets Direct, Feb 2007, Pages: 17
The stock of credit to non-government has shrunk by 0.3% in January, in a seasonal pattern that was still stronger than in past years. It is premature to conclude that credit expansion faces obstacles, as much as key lending regulations are going to be removed by the central bank. The main driver for the credit narrowing in January was on the corporate side, as firms reduced their stock of local currency loans by 7.2% in a month. This may well have been the effect of more loans being “exported” by banks to their foreign parents once credit market liberalised.
