The term 'Bloodborne Pathogens' means pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This plan provides guidelines that helps isolate or remove the bloodborne pathogens hazard from the work environment. Procedures for work practice controls are provided to eliminate or minimize employee exposure. The medical component in this plan includes information for hospitals, medical and dental clinics, skilled nursing facilities, laboratories, and any institutions that provide direct patient care and/or medical research.
