Global OEM Forward Model Programmes, Forecasts To 2016

Description: This 244 page report is the OEM forward model for anyone interested in future model programmes of the world’s OEMs. Whilst extremely comprehensive (it covers all vehicles from 61 brands and 17 OEMs out as far as 2016) it is also one of the fastest ways to get a complete handle on who will be producing what, where, how and even why – don’t waste time with complicated databases or guesswork, just skip to the OEM, brand or vehicle you need and find all the key facts and figures in a matter of minutes.

Presented entirely in an accessible, factual and waffle-free ‘executive summary’ style, the OEM forward model programme report is published with the reader’s convenience in mind: it is written not to conform to a word or page count with unnecessary padding, but to present all key facts and information in the shortest possible space and time. It is the quickest way to effectively gain the forward model insight of hundreds of industry insiders – enabling you to consume many months of research and key nuggets of unknown information as quickly as possible.

This new report on the forward model programmes of the world's OEMs shows increasing model globalisation. The report, which analyses forward model programmes as far out as 2016 for 61 brands from 17 OEMs, highlights many interesting trends. Many European OEMs for instance will retain old models with lower prices for developing markets once replacements arrive - the Skoda Octavia will become the Octavia Tour, the Punto the Punto Classic and the Clio the Clio Campus.

Beyond this, the report also shows vehicles made and sold in very different markets, such as a Korean-made SUV that will be sold by Renault in Europe, and a Chinese-made Citroen also to be sold in Europe.

The issues of vehicle branding and positioning are increasingly prevalent: Nissan Europe is abandoning the upper medium segment by not replacing the Primera, and GM is increasingly merging future Opel and Saturn products whilst Ford are set to abandon the MPV sector in North America. Acura are starting their global crusade, and on a technical level, the report shows BMW will return to turbocharging (of petrol engines) after a long absence, whilst Honda move towards diesels for North America

Summary: Extract from the report (an incomplete part of just one of 61 brands covered):

Volvo
Falling sales of its aging large platform cars in Europe and North America were responsible for Volvo missing its 200x sales targets. The XC90, however, continues to be a major success, with build edging beyond xxx vehicles last year and this year’s mid-life update expected to maintain much of its momentum into 2007. The new, second generation S80 and C70 have only modest sales targets, as does the forthcoming C30. A larger volume lift towards the target of xxx units by 200x can be expected once the XC50 and S60/V70/XC70 replacements come on stream. Major expansion above this level is not believed to be possible using only existing plants – capacity at Torslanda, Uddevalla and Ghent is xxx vehicles. Large scale growth above this level must come from two sources: China where initial, low-volume S40 assembly begins in China at the end of 200x and North America, where Ford may build the second generation XC90 from late 200x. In calendar 2005, Volvo built xxxx vehicles.

Future Fact:
Volvo is the only Premium sector make moving all its vehicles onto one architecture.

C30
Place of build: Ghent, Belgium
Codename: xxxxxx
Platform: xxxxxxx
Segment: Lower Medium
Drive: FWD/AWD
Engines: 2.5 litre I5 turbo, 2.4 litre I5 turbodiesel
Lifecycle: 2006-20xx

Next model action: A ‘Design Concept’ version from the 2006 NAIAS will be followed by the production car at the Paris show in September. Expect only five-cylinder versions at first, with 1.8 and 2.0 litre Ix engines to be added in mid 200x. Production will start in November with build of xxxx for calendar 200x though build could be double that in 200x, particularly if Volvo decides to sell the car in the USA. Sources there believe that market could absorb at least xxx cars per year. The C30’s first and only facelift is due in 20xx.

Successor: TBA

S40
Place of build: Ghent, Belgium; xxxx*, China
Codename: xxx
Platform: xxx
Segment: Upper Medium
Drive: FWD/AWD

Engines: 1.6 litre I4, 1.8 litre I4, 2.0 litre I4, 2.4 litre I5, 2.5 litre I5 turbo, 1.6 litre I4 turbodiesel, 2.0 litre I4 turbodiesel, 2.4 litre I5 turbodiesel
Lifecycle: September 2003-20xx.

Initially only front-wheel drive versions were built but the T5 AWD appeared in July 2004. The S40 1.6 and 1.6D were then added in January 2005. These entry-level variants joined the existing 2.0 litre turbodiesel and 2.4 litre I5, 2.5 litre I5 turbo and 1.8 litre I4 petrol variants. The most recent range additions were the 2.0 litre S40 2.0 and the 2.4 litre D5 in June. Assembly of up to xxx units/annum in China at Mazda and xxxx plant is expected to start in December. Production at Ghent totalled xxx units in 2005.

Next model action: First facelift due in March 20xx at the Geneva show, second facelift at Paris in September 20xx.

Successor: An updated Ford C1 architecture is expected to be used.
