In July 2003 the Minister for Science and Innovation, Lord Sainsbury, announced a cash injection of £90m over the following six years to help industry harness the commercial opportunities offered by nanotechnology.
As a result, the DTI launched the Micro & Nano Technology Network (MNT) to act as the principal portal for the promotion of commercial applications of micro and nano technologies; to co-ordinate DTI initiatives; and to facilitate global industry access to world-class UK micro and nano technology research facilities.
