The Industrial Map of the Yangtze River Delta 2005

In recent years the Yangtze River Delta Region has become an investment hotspot for domestic and international investors. In the first half of 2004, the region, with only 2% of China's total land area and 10% of China's total population, produced 26% of China's GDP, accounted for 37% of all China foreign trade and attracted 52% of total utilized foreign investment into China. The Yangtze River Delta Region, located on the central eastern coast, leads China's three economic centers which include the Pearl River Delta Region in southern China and the Beijing-Tianjin Area in northern China.
This report consists of three main sections: Section one describes the role of the Yangtze Delta in China's overall economy and uses market share data to describe the region's ten most domestically competitive industries. Section two summarizes the Yangtze Delta's ten most competitive enterprises using three factors: Industrial organization, Recent developments and Key enterprises. Section three presents a concise overview of the trends and important aspects of the Yangtze Delta's economic development. At the time of this report's compilation, 2004 full-year statistical data had not yet been released, so this report includes data covering only the first half of 2004.
