Increased health-conscious due to pandemics
During the SARS pandemic in 2003, great efforts were made on the part of the Government and medical authorities to educate the general public on personal hygiene and a healthy lifestyle. Two years later, in 2005, consumer health consciousness was re-awakened by the eruption of avian influenza and the fear of human-tohuman transmission. Medical experts issued warnings that avian influenza could turn into a global pandemic, which could cause millions of death. Hence, health-related information in the form of printed materials and through the media was distributed all over Hong Kong. Consumers acquired ample medical knowledge during this period and became more health-conscious. They became much more concerned about maintaining a healthy lifestyle to help prevent contraction of disease. As a result products within vitamins and dietary supplements were in high demand in 2005.
