Uzbekistan Oil and Gas Report Q1 2016

  • ID: 3505901
  • December 2015
  • Region: Uzbekistan
  • 88 pages
  • Business Monitor International
1 of 4

Our outlook for Uzbekistan's gas sector remains positive as we expect gas production and export figures to remain strong across our forecast period to 2024. However, the country's oil sector will continue on a downward slope leaving the country increasingly more dependent on refined fuels imports and subjecting it to potential fuel shortages.

Latest Updates and Key Forecasts
- According to Yonhap news agency, South Korea's KOGAS was expected to commence operations at Surgil gas field in Uzbekistan in October 2015.

- In November 2015, a consortium of Uzbekneftegaz, Lukoil, Petronas, Korean KNOC and Chinese CNPC started drilling an exploratory well Meros EX-1 in the Aral Sea.

- Due to the start-up of a number of new gas fields, 2015 gas production volumes in Uzbekistan are estimated to have grown by 7.9% y-o-y, reaching 70bn cubic metres (bcm). We keep our longer-term production forecasts unchanged and expect a further 3.5% growth in the overall output between 2015 and 2024.
