"The global market for confectionery has become relatively static in recent years as it reaches maturity in many countries. Leatherhead Food RA estimates that the global confectionery category grew between 0.5% and 1% in 2000, giving a total value of around US92.6 billion."

"Per capita consumption of confectionery varies across the globe, with the higher end of the market being in northern Europe. Overall, Denmark has the highest per capita consumption rate, with the Danish consuming 16.3 kg of confectionery a year… the Swiss head chocolate confectionery with per capita consumption at 9.9 kg."

"Of the thirty companies covered in this report, six have their headquarters in North America (all in the US), five in Asia-Pacific/Australasia (all in Japan), and three in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil and Chile).
