Methodology The 2005 Census of Distribution was designed to collect operational and business metrics and practices at warehouse and distribution facilities. A four-page questionnaire with more than 100 questions, jointly developed by the MPI Group, Industry Insights, and Material Handling Management (MHM), was mailed with the June issue of MHM (approximately 90,000 leaders and managers). As an incentive, each respondent had the opportunity to anonymously request a free Executive Summary and a custom, online benchmark report. MPI received 457 valid, completed survey forms (44 by mail and 413 online), and all responses were anonymous. Data was entered into a database, edited, and cleansed to ensure answers were plausible.
