Why buy this report?
- Get a detailed picture of the functional drinks industry

- Understand the competitive environment, the market’s major players and leading brands
- Use five-year forecasts to assess how the market is predicted to develop

Functional drinks sales continued their volume growth in 2008, but the rate continued to slow from the double digit increases seen earlier in the review period. Consumers continue to be drawn to functional drinks for the electrolyte replenishment, the rush of energy, or other functional benefits they offer. Sports drinks have been available in the US for many years, and are controlled by two major national brands, and are showing signs of maturity. This is because some cannibalisation of existing lines is occurring, and the trend of new launches is no longer enough to draw in new consumers. Energy drinks are a far more recent introduction to the US, and continue to grow beyond the pioneering Red Bull brand through new packaging and flavour innovations.
