IP Conferencing Market Insight
Frost & Sullivan, Feb 2004
The high quality of existing legacy public switched telephone network (PSTN) and integrated services data network (ISDN) based conferencing equipment prevents service providers from investing in the implementation of a costly Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure. Vendors need to overcome the users’ overwhelming confidence in traditional conferencing offerings with PSTN and ISDN formats before they can succeed in introducing IP conferencing. To rise above this challenge, service providers are implementing a hybrid environment. This will initiate the use of IP conferencing among enterprises and the experience with new functionalities is expected to increase their confidence in the quality and security of IP conferencing.
This research examines the current state of IP conferencing within the audio, video, and Web conferencing industries. The research analyzes the micro aspects pertaining to each sector and the macro events that are likely to impact the entire conferencing industry. Each section of this research provides strategic guidance for companies and a timeline for vendors to use as a benchmark.
