Analysis of the German Healthcare IT Markets
Frost & Sullivan, Aug 2005
Entrants Need to Form Synergistic Alliances to Break into the High Growth Healthcare IT Markets Globally The healthcare markets in Germany, France, Spain, Australia and Canada are fragmented, with several technology vendors controlling different niche segments. The first vendors that implemented legacy systems still have a hold on certain pockets of provider groups - in both the primary and secondary care segments - because end users cannot afford expensive upgrades. Since existing relationships between vendors and clients are highly valued, entrants including multinational vendors, modality majors and technology powerhouses find it extremely difficult to penetrate new markets. Meanwhile, some vendors have acquired companies to gain access to potential customer groups as well as knowledge and insights into the local market. Acquisitions, while being less risky than distribution agreements with third parties, also offer businesses short start-up time and immediate market presence.
