Introduction
This brief will analyze the implications for the CRM industry of the announced acquisition of Crystal Decisions by Business Objects.

Scope
- The brief covers the recent announcement that Business Objects will acquire Crystal Decisions and Hyperion will acquire Brio

- This acquisition marks the beginning of a phase of consolidation for the BI industry

- Datamonitor considers the implications, not just for Business Objects and Crystal Decisions but also all vendors considering entry to the market

Report Highlights
From a product point of view there are obvious synergies. Crystal Decisions enterprise reporting combined with Business Objects ad-hoc reporting, BI Applications and analytics will create a significant force in the market.

Through an extensive network of OEM partnerships, Crystal has more than 14million licenses, while Business Objects has access to a range of Fortune 500 companies. The deal also creates a global company, with solid customer bases in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

A major trigger for both these events was Microsoft’s March 2003 announcement that it would be adding reporting elements to SQL server. NCR Teradata already has analytics capabilities so the mergers may be seen as pre-emptive defensive actions against bigger vendors.

Reasons to Purchase
- Learn about the forces acting on the market which may have forced the acquisition

- Learn how Crystal Decisions and Business Objects products complement each other

- Position yourself for further growth in a volatile market with an uncertain future
