This study focuses on carrier voice equipment, notably voice over IP (VoIP) carrier standalone session border controllers (SBC). SBCs are deployed as edge devices at the borders of IP networks, typically between two service providers. In this study, we have included both proprietary hardware platforms and software products installed on industry standard platforms, as long as the equipment is standalone and separated from other network equipment, such as gateways, softswitches, and routers.
