Asia Pacific Market Perspective, v6 i7
Pyramid Research, Inc., April 2006, Pages: 11
FIXED COMMUNICATIONS China: IPTV Offering Expected to Boost Broadband Adoption With IPTV trials already underway in China’s metropolitan areas, we expect that the lure of the service will help increase household broadband penetration to 20 percent by 2009. However, Analyst Yiru Zhong argues that in order for the official 20m subscribers by 2008 target to be met, regulatory issues will need to be addressed and the operators will have to push volume-based strategies.
MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS Philippines and Indonesia: Marching toward 3G The Philippines and Indonesia are two of Asia’s newest members of the 3G club, with licensing and early commercial deployments having been underway since early 2006. While operators have already targeted the high-end user market with services such as video calling and streaming video, 3G takes a different route in these two nations, which combined have a total population of nearly 330m people. With broadband penetration under 2 percent in both the Philippine and Indonesian markets, Analyst Jane Buenaventura investigates how operators can use 3G to promote internet connectivity in these two countries.
