  • Region: Mexico
  • Frost & Sullivan

Though a non-OPEC country, Mexico enjoys the reputation of being a prime energy-producing nation and is home to one of the largest energy companies in the world. The Mexican energy industry is a significant revenue generator for the federal government. Therefore, the government influences most of the major activities in the energy industry. The Mexican economy did enjoy the benefits of liberalization during the early nineties but the energy industry never really experienced its full impact. While vertical integration of state-owned energy companies control major part of the market, legislative barriers restricts the scope of operations for the private energy companies.
