The benefits of genetically modified (GM) foods are either not understood by most consumers, or they are outweighed or diluted by consumers’ concerns about the safety of these foods.

We asked consumers in 12 countries to react to the following statement:
- 'I am concerned about the safety of genetically modified foods.'
Our findings show that nearly half of the overall sample 'strongly agree' that this describes their attitude, more than a quarter 'somewhat agree', and only 1 in 5 disagree 'somewhat' or 'strongly.'
