The alert explores Americans’ perceptions of their place in the global context, their satisfaction with how their government is making decisions in this very tense climate, and their general ease with living in America today.

We asked American adults to say whether, over the past 12 months, they have become More or Less likely to:

'Feel happy that you live in this country '

'State your opinion about controversial issues '

'Respect cultures that do not share your values '

'Trust your country’s leaders to make the right decisions '

'Believe what you see or hear in the news '

'Be interested in traveling to other countries.'

Overall, the data tell a story of a people challenged, even fearful (when it comes to traveling overseas), but in no way pessimistic or subdued in their appreciation of what being American means to them.
