About Data Center Server

Servers are the backbone of a data center operation, and they are used mainly for the transfer of data over computer networks. A server operation is dependent on hardware reliability and durability. A typical server consists of dual-power supplies, redundant array of independent disks (RAID) disk systems, and error-correcting code (ECC) memory, which are tested for operations by vendors. There have been several innovations in the design and manufacturing of servers, depending on business requirements.

The analysts forecast the global data center server market to grow at a CAGR of 4.89% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Data Center Server Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global data center server market: HPE, Dell, IBM, Lenovo, and Cisco Systems.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: StackVelocity Group, Bull (Atos Technologies), Fujitsu, Huawei Technologies, Inspur, MiTAC Holdings, NEC, Oracle, Quanta Computer, Sugon, Super Micro Computer, and Wistron.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in market is decline in server prices. Servers, especially rack servers and towers, have been offered in the market for around a decade. As many enterprises move to the cloud for their business operations, the increased use of analytics has led to several innovations in the market, namely, mission-critical and density-optimized servers. There are also server models that are available in the market that target different industry verticals with improved efficiency. Also, the availability and growing demand for converged and hyper-converged infrastructure solutions has intensified the competition among vendors. This competition has also prompted vendors in offering small-scale high performance infrastructure at lower costs. This has helped to reduce the prices of servers in the market. However, keeping in mind that vendors launch new products in the market almost every quarter, the price of servers powered by the latest processors and configurations remains slightly on the higher side.”

According to the report, one driver in market is increase in demand for energy-efficient servers. Servers earlier used to consume around 50-80 watts, but the average power now consumed by servers is 350 watts. This means that servers consume around 30% of the total power utilized in data centers. Consumption depends on the type of servers and their configurations. This power consumption is a significant factor in the operational expenditure (OPEX) of data centers worldwide. Power consumption by servers in the data center is the second major concern for rising OPEX. Virtualization has helped to boost the utilization of server infrastructure in modern data center environments, where the number of idle servers is reducing rapidly.

Further, the report states that one challenge in market is server management issues. Enterprises are considering the availability and efficiency of data center infrastructure to support their growing computing requirements. Traditional enterprise data center environments that operate 1,000 servers are manufactured by several vendors, such as Dell, IBM, and HPE. Servers are interlinked with storage and communicate with each other over networks. In this scenario, replacing another server in place of a failed server might not be compatible with the storage linked to the old one. The data center environment is becoming complex on a year-over-year basis. These multivendor environments are also increasing the complexity of networking in data centers. Therefore, enterprises are working to enhance the flexibility in using deployed servers to improve their performance.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
