Multimedia Home Networking in Asia/Pacific
In-Stat/MDR, Dec 2006, Pages: 17
Based on our recent customer survey of 1,210 APAC respondents, we explore the interest levels and current use of multimedia equipment used in networked homes in the Asia/Pacific region. Findings and conclusions on the adoption of multimedia home networking equipment and the perception of non-current users are: All 1,210 respondents have computers at home while 62.1%, or 751 families, have more than one unit. 97.6% of respondents have Internet access at home. 40.2%, or 487 homes, have network routers or a residential gateway for a home network.
In the Asia/Pacific region, home networking is still in the early adoption stage. There is huge potential for various networking multimedia devices to be adopted in PC-literate homes. For current multimedia home network users, the most frequent usages are music playing, viewing digital pictures, and viewing videos; entertainment value is always highly regarded. For current non-network users, customer education programs are necessary for generating market awareness of functionalities and benefits of various multimedia home networking devices.
