From Strength to Strength: The Taiwanese Cable STB Supply Chain

With global multiple system operators - particularly those in North America - introducing new digital TV services, the number of digital TV subscribers has been growing steadily, thereby driving global cable STB demand continuously. Global STB shipment is estimated to have reached 18.6 million units in 2006. The close partnership between Taiwanese manufacturers and leading international equipment vendors has lead to a steady increase in Taiwan's cable STB shipment. Taiwanese makers' cable STB shipment is estimated to have reached nearly 3.9 million units as of the end of 2006, with ODM/OEM for international brands accounting for approximately 93% of the total. This report will examine Taiwanese cable STB makers' strategies and their current development.
