Ingres Corporation is a new open-source relational database management system (RDBMS) start-up with a long history. It has the brain (influential executive team with proven track record), the brawn (mature database technology and new money) and a pragmatic approach to open source. MySQL may have more open source momentum and Oracle more muscle, but Ingres Corporation has the potential to challenge them both, if it can execute properly.
