Africa Mobile Profitability
Pyramid Research, Inc, Jan 2004, Pages: 79
This report analyzes the keys to mobile operator profitability in African markets
In the telecoms sector, markets are maturing, margins are declining. The solution in 'developed' markets is typically to introduce data services, increase usage, etc. Things are less obvious in Africa; maintaining sustained profitability requires a bit more imagination, and some fairly hard choices, about surviving with customers who only spend $5/month. The report will highlight some of these hard choices, and suggest some optimal strategies to the maintenance of profitability; it will provide opinions on who’s well positioned to succeed in the above context, and who isn’t.
The report includes:
-Margins, revenue and profitability data for 20-25 public and private operators -The strongest, deepest and widest analysis of African operator profitability -Analysis to determine which players are likely to remain strong over the medium term, and which ones will be in trouble.
The report results from our attempt to build an internal and reliable source of benchmarking of African operator performance. Benchmarking African operators is not easy. The relevant data is generally not available, and even when it is, can be extremely difficult to obtain. As a result, African operators are often benchmarked against operators in other emerging markets (Israel, Russia, Turkey) that are not intuitively comparable. This report is designed to provide more meaningful benchmarks.
Who This Report is For:
-Operators because identifies their strategies for survival. -Vendors because it identifies which of their clients are likely to be around over the medium term. -Investment Banks because it provides a third party analysis on their clients and where their invested money stands.
