Trends, Opportunities and Profiles of the 24 Largest Telco Spenders

Although there has been minimal spending from wireline operators, there IS light at the end of the tunnel - we see growth. Wireline CAPEX will reach $132 billion in 2007 vs. $112 billion in 2002 (CAGR 3%) worldwide, of which, roughly half will be allocated to the access network, driven by fiber, DSL, and fixed wireless. Amongst the largest telcos in the world, the top three global spenders are Verizon, NTT, and China Telecom, with aggregated wireline CAPEX of some $40 billion.

One area of growth – and the subject of intense speculation by vendors – is IP. we expect global spending on IP infrastructure to reach $21 billion by 2007, up from $14 billion in 2002 (CAGR 12%) as carriers invest in the infrastructure needed to support increase bandwidth in the access network.

Our new report takes a global picture detailing the infrastructure investments within the world’s 24 largest wireline operators. The telecom sector is picking up and so is CAPEX spending. Vendors need to know what and where the next investment opportunities will be. Carriers need to have competitive information on what their peers are planning to better position themselves in the market.
