Algeria is still very active in the hydrocarbons sector. The country is currently building new capacities to boost its gas exports (gas pipelines and LNG facilities) in a close future. In parallel, to face the strong increase of its domestic demand for refined products, the country has launched an ambitious plan for the expansion and modernization of its existing refineries.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
