Fixed Operators Fight Back: Using Prepaid and DSL to Maximize Revenus and Minimize the Mobile Threat
Pyramid Research, Inc, January 2002, Pages: 50
Across Latin America, main line growth is slowing and mobile operators are chipping away at fixed line subscribers. But despite the sometimes dire predictions, fixed operators are well positioned to capitalize on growing demand for high-speed data and insatiable demand for basic connectivity.
This new report shows how operators are currently under-exploiting the profitability potential of the local loop. This may come as a surprise considering that the local loop is currently a cash cow for Latin American operators, some of which exhibited Ebidta margins as high as 52% at year-end 2001. The provisioning of DSL and prepaid services provides key opportunities for carriers to further increase their profitability. But they must act quickly and wisely.
In order for Latin American operators to boost their revenues via increased Internet revenues and decreased uncollectables, they should concentrate on targeting two groups: high-end and low-end customers. High-end customers can be approached with a DSL offering and a prepaid alternative can be offered to lower-end customers. This report provides forecasts and case studies to help operators implement profitable customer segmentation strategies.
Although this report focuses primarily on Latin American operators, all fixed operators will benefit from the strategies and company case studies provided. Valuable data and analysis in this report includes near-term broadband opportunities for vendors in Latin America case study analysis of the evolution of prepaid services in the Philippines Internet user penetration in the top six Latin American markets for 1997-2006 and an in-depth company profile of Cantv.
