Africa's Next-Generation Opportunity
Pyramid Research, Inc., Jan 2002, Pages: 32
The establishment of packet-based platforms, especially IP, will be a cornerstone of fixed carrier competitiveness over the next few years. New entrants in the fixed line market will have few choices but to establish fiber backbones to be immediately competitive. In South Africa, potential second national operators (SNOs) Eskom and Transtel are planning to use fiber optic backbones, and Nigeria’s SNO is expected to build a fiber optic backbone to compete with incumbent Nitel. This report identifies those African markets where operators are more likely to make significant investments in packet switching infrastructure over the next few years. We cut through the hype to provide accurate, actionable forecasts, strategies and analysis. Included is an informal survey of African operators - their concerns and their plans. Vendors will use this information to plan effective marketing campaigns. Operators will learn what their counterparts are thinking. This report will help vendors: Identify IP migration opportunities, market by market understand operator investment plans and competitive concerns and calculate growth trends in South Africa, Egypt and Morocco. The report will help operators: Assess viability of next-generation networks develop effective IP migration strategies and capitalize on growing Internet usage.
