Polymer Bulletin - Conductive Polymers

This Polymer Bulletin is a current awareness service from the Polymer Library, the worlds largest database dedicated to polymer literature. Conductive Polymers (i.e. those which have significant conductivity) were first developed around 30 years ago, but it is only recently that their commercial viability has been recognised, highlighted by the fact that the conductive ‘iodine-doped Polyacetylene’ was developed in 1977, but not until 2000 was the Nobel prize awarded for it. The number of end-use applications has risen sharply in recent years due to the trend of miniaturisation and increased uses in the automotive industry through electrostatic paint application. The potential for use in anti-static packaging at low costs is also being explored. A June 2004 market report published by Freedonia confidently predicts that this large market will continue to grow steadily.
