This Polymer Bulletin is a current awareness service from the Polymer Library, the worlds largest database dedicated to polymer literature. Each time the abstracts database is updated with new records (approx. every two weeks) you will be sent a bulletin alerting you to any items that relate to decorating, printing or embossing plastics.

The decorating, printing and embossing of plastics is a priority topic and widely used manufacturing process in the plastics industry since competition to sell plastic products which are aesthetically pleasing to the eye are constantly accelerating. Plastics can be decorated in a number of ways including painting, electroplating, spraying, vacuum metallizing, hot stamping, embossing and printing. Automobile parts, appliances, furniture, building products, packaging and containers all depend on attractive decorating for the 'point of purchase' sales. Plastic body cars are painted to achieve show room finishes, plastic food packaging and containers have designs, logos and information printed onto them and vinyl floor and wall coverings are embossed with attractive patterns to increase the desirability and therefore sales.

Choosing the correct way of decorating a particular plastic is an important part of the production process. Although decorating plastics can have desired positive effects, there can be problems associated with decorating techniques. For example when painting a plastic a familiarity with terminology, tests, processes, techniques and regulations is required. Because plastic paint films are polymers, and therefore quite similar to the plastic materials themselves, physical, chemical and thermal interactions are likely to cause problems. Cracking, peeling or dulling of the paint may occur. These are effects that need to be avoided. Environmental effects and costs are also important issues that need to be addressed.

A Current Awareness service from us may be just what you need to update your knowledge with ease and accuracy without having to waste time, effort and money finding the information yourself.

E-mail delivery every two weeks.
