This Polymer Bulletin is a current awareness service from the Polymer Library, the worlds largest database dedicated to polymer literature. Polymers can be used in some fairly obvious, straight-forward ways in pharmaceuticals; there is a great deal of equipment required for developing drugs, much of which is high-quality plastic. Likewise, the bottles in which the drugs are ultimately dispensed is almost always made from a low-cost, good-quality polymer which prevents the pills from becoming damaged, e.g. from contact with water vapour from the air. There are, however, some far more complex applications for Polymers in Pharmaceuticals, including Molecular Imprinting for the synthesis of drugs and targeted drug delivery within the body. All aspects of polymers in pharmaceutical applications are considered in this bulletin.
