Polymer Bulletin - Tyres

This Polymer Bulletin is a current awareness service from the Polymer Library, the worlds largest database dedicated to polymer literature. Each time the abstracts database is updated with new records (approx. every two weeks) you will be sent a bulletin alerting you to any items that relate to tyres.
Since tyres were first invented in the UK during the 19th century they have developed and changed significantly. Whilst the concept was always good, initially they had very limited use, but with the growth in popularity of bikes and cars in the late 19th and early 20th century tyres soon became an every day essential item. Naturally, tyre technology is now more complex than ever, requiring several types of rubber to make just one tyre in order to get the performance required, but that is just one of the problems facing the tyre industry. Another major issue is what to do with the tyres that have come to the end of their life – new laws and legislation are making it ever harder to dump them, so there are millions of tyres which need to be recycled in some way.
